It appears the former home of UnCool Burger has found a new tenant at 7881 Santa Monica Boulevard in the City of West Hollywood. A sign has gone up at the space announcing that Eat Thai restaurant is “Coming Soon” to WeHo mid-city. A look inside shows signs that the space is under new ownership and currently be being revamped to serve as a Thai restaurant inside the Whole Foods strip mall (t will be located in the same lot as Kung Pao Bistro, which is at 7853 Santa Monica Boulevard).
Uncool Burger, which was also known as Uncool Bar towards the end of its lifespan, moved from their original Larchmont location and opened to the West Hollywood space on August 2021. Unfortunately, it would not survive a whole year. It announced via its Instagram account that it was closing permanently on May 24, 2022. A reason for their closure was not given.
Josh Pourgol, founder of the Blurred Limes Hospitality Co., is known for restaurants like Bardonna, Counterpart Vegan and Tu Madre Tacos. Although Uncool Burgers did not survived, he would open a Tu Madre Mexican restaurant in West Hollywood, at 1111 N Hayworth Avenue, known for serving tacos, burritos, and bowls, as well as a selection of vegetarian Mexican dishes, which is still open today. Tu Madre has sister locations at Larchmont Village, Los Feliz, and Westwood.
Hopefully Eat Thai will have better luck than Crispy Pork Gang Thai which was scheduled to expand to WeHo last year. They announced that they were coming to the former Coffee Bean space at 8735 Santa Monica Boulevard on July 2021. Demolition was underway, but after a few weeks, all activity stopped. A year later, on July 2022, a For Lease sign was back up at the empty storefront indicating that the deal had fallen through. It was a huge disappointment for local residents who were excited to have a new Thai restaurant in the neighborhood.
More information on the new up-and-coming Eat Thai Restaurant will be posted as it becomes available.
