Drake’s Hollywood has Officially Opened in West Hollywood

Drake’s Hollywood has officially opened in the City of West Hollywood at 8747 Melrose Avenue, west of San Vicente Boulevard, in the Design District. They have moved into the former home of Nancy Corzine, a fine furniture store that closed during the pandemic.

The new Drake’s is not to be confused with the old popular gay adult retail store by the same name that was located on Santa Monica Boulevard (where Bottega Louie WEHO now stands) or its sister location further east on Melrose Avenue by the Fairfax District.

The new restaurant is all glitz and glamour when you get past a thick red leather door. The interior is like stepping back in time with rich leather booths a fully stocked bar and vintage Hollywood inspired art.

The new restaurant had it grand opening on Friday May 5, 2023. They hosted a party for family and friends a few days prior to that.

“We are so excited to be in the neighborhood, especially this great location,” Manager Carrie Crawford told WEHO TIMES. “People are saying they see Old Hollywood in West Hollywood when they walk in. It’s been great bringing Drake’s from Dallas. Our neighbors are excited, because they don’t know what to expect when they walk through our red leather doors. We’re bringing old Hollywood back.”

Carrie has been in the hospitality restaurant business for 26 years. She welcomes everyone to Drake’s Hollywood and she said she can’t wait for West Hollywood residents to try their World Coldest Martini. She recommends the King’s Porterhouse where you get the best of both worlds with a filet and strip. “It is very flavorful,” she said “There’s also the Starlet, a petite 8oz filet with two king shrimp on top. It’s amazing.”

Drake’s Hollywood was conceptualized by Hunter Pond, founder and CEO of Vandelay Hospitality Group. Pond has a roster of restaurants that include the East Hampton Sandwich Co. and the Hudson House on The Sunset Strip.

Drake’s was inspired by restaurants from the West Coast, namely, “old-school, classic hangouts” like Delilah’s and Craig’s, which are both West Hollywood locations.

Since 2012, Vandelay has developed restaurant brands and services that “evoke a combination of rich American heritage, exquisite craftsmanship, and an eye for detail. Our dedication to honest food and credible service is predicated upon our commitment and respect to our partners and guests.”

Once you get to $30 appetizers and a bottle of average wine hits $100 that costs $10 at Trader Joe’s then I say it won’t work.

For some of us, confusion with the old Drake’s porn-store is a retro-reality. If it was the old porn-store reopening I’d be over there lickedysplit, pun intended! The old East Melrose Drake’s, and the after-hours neighborhood shenanigans was FUN!

    “Inspired” by restaurants like “Delilah’s and Craig’s”?. Let’s hope it’s more Craig’s.

But due to the cost of doing business in West Hollywood you have $24 french fries. Good luck to them.
