Drag Story Hour Rally was cancelled due to lack of any evidence that the event will be protested in West Hollywood.”The strength of the LGBT+ community and the movement in California continues to be strong,” reads a social media post by BAMN– a coalition tthat defends affirmative action, integration and immigrant rights and fights for equality. “There’s no indication of a right-wing mobilization to Drag Story Hour in West Hollywood. If BAMN gets any information that they are organizing to attack this event, we are ready to organize to come to the defense of Drag Story Hour and trans and gay youth. We urge others to remain vigilant as well.”
The Drag Story Hour Rally was planned in anticipation of attacks by anti-drag and transphobic on the day of Drag Story Hour at the West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.
The popular drag reading is returning to the City of West Hollywood starting on April 15, 2023. The series of story time readings by drag performers for children of all ages is presented by the City of West Hollywood in partnership with the West Hollywood Library.
A BAMN representative states that they are on standby for now, but they are reaching out to their base to inform them to stand down until they get more intel on whether or not there will be any any attacks on the event.
A flier was already circulating on social media calling for action to stop attacks on the LGBT+ and trans communities without the reliance of politicians and the police to protect the LGBT+ community. “Take action to defeat the Trump movement’s attacks on LGBT+
communities, women, civil and immigrant rights,” read the postings. The real power is in the streets! Jail Donald Trump and his January 6th authoritarian coup attempt co-conspirators Across the country, Drag Queen Story Hours are being held in libraries, schools, churches and other places across the country.”
BAMN is one of a long list of organizations participating at the Drag March LA this weekend on Easter Sunday, on April 9. The event will begin with a rally and kickoff performance at 11 a.m. at West Hollywood Park.
