There has been an interesting twist at Crustica Pizza in West Hollywood. We reported here first that the rolled pizza restaurant at 9045 Santa Monica Boulevard had shut down after only being open in WeHo for eight months. However, it turns out the restaurant was victim of a hoax by a disgruntled employee who put up a sign from inside the building stating they were “Sorry for the inconvenience! Moving to a new location. CLOSED!!!”
A public relations person for the pizzeria owned by Nile Niami, a real estate developer, reached out to WEHO TIMES to clarify that Crustica Pizza is in fact very much open. She says that an employee was let go and that he saw an opportunity to prank the restaurant on his way out. According to the spokesperson, the employee knew the restaurant was closing for a couple of days, so he snuck a sign on the front door stating that the restaurant was closed and moving elsewhere.
“We planned on being closed because we were working on something big and needed the kitchen,” she said. “It appears the employee took advantage of the situation. We will be announcing something very soon!”
It is not yet clear why no one noticed the sign if they were using the kitchen to work on something big. Readers also reported that the restaurant was empty this past weekend, which is what prompted us to verify that a sign had gone up stating they were closed.
In any case, the prank wasn’t a total loss. Many of our readers said that they didn’t know the place existed, so now they know, and maybe they’ll give some rolled pizza a try.
Crustica Pizza had a private opening event for friends and family on May 20, 2022. They had their grand opening to the public on May 24.
With the slogan, “New York folds it, Los Angeles rolls it,” the fast casual pizza restaurant offers pizza that you roll. Crustica’s menu includes a wide variety of savory and dessert pizzas, salads and in-house sodas. From mushroom to meatball pizza and banana Nutella to fruit compote, what makes the pizza stand out, besides the ultrathin crust, and new way of eating it, are the low calories.
