    Craig’s Restaurant Faces Lawsuit Following Armed Robbery Outside Establishment

    - Advertisement -

    A lawsuit filed on January 31, 2024, against Craig’s Restaurant and its owner, Craig Susser, by Attorney Anahita Sedaghatfar of The Law Offices of Anahita Sedaghatfar, alleges negligence, premises liability, negligent hiring, supervision, or retention after plaintiffs Felipe Darrell and Terry Christanio were assaulted and robbed outside the establishment on August 3, 2023.

    The lawsuit states that on August 3, 2023, Plaintiffs patronized Craig’s Restaurant for dinner, located at 8826 Melrose Ave in West Hollywood. Video footage at the establishment shows plaintiffs standing outside the restaurant with the valet. At 12:22 PDT, three armed men attacked them. Two of the men were armed. Mr. Darrell was jumped and violently thrown to the ground while his watch and necklace were taken from him at gunpoint. Another armed man held a gun to Ms. Christanio’s person and demanded she close her eyes and get on the ground.

    According to the lawsuit, the armed assailants were seen loitering in their vehicle at the Craig’s valet, just before the attack, allegedly casing the premises.

    A statement by attorney Sedaghatfar says that “the armed assailants threatened to murder Plaintiffs, and they believed they were going to die. This horrific incident garnered much media attention and was captured on this disturbing video where you can hear Plaintiffs pleading for their lives…”

    “Despite the recent rash of similar armed robberies in the area, Craig’s only had one security guard on premises, and he was totally distracted at the time of the attack as he was seen socializing with other patrons,” reads the statement. “Craig’s utterly failed to warn or protect Plaintiffs. Egregiously, and despite being on notice for over 5 months that this violent armed robbery (that could have resulted in the murders of Plaintiffs) took place on his watch, Craig Susser has made no attempt to check on Plaintiffs, or even to simply ask how they are doing.”

    According to their attorney, the Plaintiffs asked to have a meeting Susser or conversation on multiple occasions, which they say Susser refused. “As alleged in the lawsuit, Plaintiffs believe that Mr. Susser’s utter lack of concern for their well-being and his refusal to right this wrong can be attributed to the fact that they are not wealthy “celebrities” to whom Mr. Susser caters and around whom he has built his brand. Plaintiffs ask that the West Hollywood community stand by them and hold Craig’s accountable to ensure that in the future, adequate security measures will be implemented so no one else is harmed again.”

    Plaintiffs are seeking judgment against Defendants as follows:

    1. For an award of compensatory damages, and other special and general damages according to proof;

    2. For an award of punitive damages;

    3. For an award of interest, including pre-judgment and post-judgment interest, at the legal rate;

    4. For an award of costs of suit incurred;

    5. For an award to Plaintiffs for such other and further relief as the Court deems just and proper.

    This is a scary and an unfortunate event but how can you blame Craig’s for what happened on the City sidewalk? Blame the city council members who voted to defund the West Hollywood Sheriff’s office in the middle of a major crime spree. Maybe the city needs more ambassadors out late at night watching streets like Melrose and Santa Monica Blvd so they can notify the sheriff’s department of criminal activity. Ultimately, we need proper staffing at the WEHO Sheriff’s department because an unarmed ambassador can do nothing to stop armed criminals.

    “a major crime spree” No such thing ever happened, Natasha.

    And the Sheriffs were back to normal levels when this situation occurred. Facts matter.

    Please enlighten us and tell us how many people you employ and how much you pay in annual property taxes in West Hollywood that contributes to the Sheriff’s budget. You are very opinionated for someone who doesn’t contribute very much to the city. If you think that West Hollywood did not have crime issues in June/July 2022 when the city council voted to cut the deputies you are a fool or just dishonest. West Hollywood is full of crime. It’s why I have 7 security cameras all over my property. It’s unfortunate but it’s a fact of life that we… Read more »

    “We”

    Referring to yourself in the third person, implying you have multiple personalities, posting at 2am, delusions of grandeur…Natasha, you probably have more in common with the mentally ill people on our streets than you even realize.

    You are very judgmental. Not a good look for someone who claims to be a progressive.

    Is Craig’s responsible for a public sidewalk and street? The CITY and County are not doing enough.

    Ridiculous. If Craig’s owner can prevent crime, he should be wearing a cape and mask. He’s a restaurant owner. We pay taxes to keep our streets safe. You wanna sue someone, sue the council.
