The GNC West Hollywood store specializing in vitamins and health supplements, becomes the latest WeHo business to shutter its doors as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to employees at that location. Store number 1580, located at 8603 Santa Monica Blvd is currently having a closing sale with everything selling at 50% to 75% off.
An employee who wishes to remain nameless says the closing of gyms around the area during the coronavirus pandemic hurt the business at that location to the point where they were forced to close permanently. He says the recent opening of Sweat Yoga across the street, where the Los Angeles Sporting Club once stood, did not help boost their sales.
Although signage on the storefront says the store is moving, a representative from GNC’s corporate office has confirmed that Store 1580 is closing permanently. The store does not have an official closing date yet. Employees were who were brought in from other locations, were told they will remain open until further notice. A GNC customer service agent doesn’t see the store remaining open past the end of this month. Most of the shelves are empty as the merchandize gets liquidated. Once most of the merchandize is sold, the store will likely end all operations.
The GNC West Hollywood has been operating in the 90069 zip code area on Santa Monica Boulevard since the early 2000s. It first opened its doors at 8704 Santa Monica Blvd., where Eddie’s Barbershop once stood (that space remains empty), before it moved across the street to its current location underneath Trader Joe’s.
As the posting of this article, the store still has protein shakes, pre-workout and weight loss supplements to name a few remaining items for sale.
The GNC store Store 7007, located at the West Hollywood Gateway, at 7100 Santa Monica Boulevard, will remain open on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. An employee at that location says they have no plans to close any time soon.
The closing of the GNC West Hollywood will add yet another empty space to that area as businesses remain shut during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Established in 1935, GNC is best known for their vitamins & multivitamins, omega-3s – protein, probiotics, weight management supplements, herbal supplements and consultations with registered dietitians during special in-store events.
