Commissioner Danny Hang is Throwing Hat in Ring for West Hollywood City Council

The website Hang4WeHo.com reveals that West Hollywood Business License Commissioner Danny Hang is throwing his hat in the ring in the race for two open seats for West Hollywood City Council in the November 5, 2024 General Municipal Election.

Danny Hang is a Southern California native who was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley. He is the proud son of Chinese-Vietnamese refugees who fled the Vietnam War in search of hope, freedom, and the American dream.

The son of a union worker, Danny saw firsthand how his father worked long hours as a machinist and became a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 725. As such, Danny is a passionate advocate of professional growth and vocational equity. He believes that workers are the backbone of the most powerful economy in the world, and deserve a fair and equitable wage. Because when workers succeed, then EVERYONE succeeds.

As the son of an immigrant small business owner, Danny watched his mom’s nail salon succeed and slowly serve as an equalizer leading to a pathway to the American middle class for his family. Danny knows firsthand that small businesses are vital to creating local jobs and growing the West Hollywood economy. Immigrant-owned small businesses are centerpieces of their neighborhoods, and they contribute in a meaningful way to the diversity and vibrancy of the West Hollywood community. As such, Danny recognizes the economic and community oriented success that West Hollywood’s thriving Russian speaking community has continued to achieve throughout the years.

A first-generation college graduate, Danny graduated from Loyola Marymount University and kicked off his career in public service at the Social Security Administration, where he adjudicated Supplemental Security Income benefits for people with disabilities and older adults.

Having fueled his passion for serving others, he returned to school to pursue a double master’s in Social Work and Gerontology from the University of Southern California. Danny now works in disability retirement for the county of Los Angeles.

His involvement with the community led to his appointment as an at-large member of the West Hollywood Disabilities Advisory Board. He worked hard to address issues affecting people with disabilities, including ADA compliance, transportation, housing, and access to City government and services for people with disabilities. He was later appointed to the West Hollywood Business License Commission. Additionally, he was also appointed as an alternate member of the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation by the State Bar Board of Trustees and he serves on the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Asian American & Pacific Islander Advisory Board. He also served on the Executive Board for Asian Democrats of Los Angeles County.

Danny is a proud member of the West Hollywood community where he resides with his cat Piper. His focus is on improving the community through servant leadership.

The Nomination Period for the November 5, 2024 General Municipal Election begins on Monday, July 15 and continues until Friday, August 9 at 5:00 p.m. The City Clerk’s Office will begin taking appointments to pull Nomination Papers on Monday, July 8.

All these opinions on a person, none of you complainers have ever met! And who cares if he was appointed by Seppi Shin he’s his own person.

I’ll vote for his cat Piper before I vote for him. He is another puppet owned by the Unite union. What did he study at Loyola Marymount? Hopefully he’s not another one of these people with worthless degrees in religion and women’s studies.

Do you have degree envy? Why do I need to prove anything to you? How many houses do you own in WEHO?

Girl, I would literally kill myself if I chose to major in finance. There is no envy here, trust me

You make a lot of bold claims on here without any proof. There comes a point where most people here just realize you’re a clown.

PLEASE try to improve your reading comprehension skills. The article clearly states that Danny Hang earned “a double Master’s in Social Work and Gerontology from the University of Southern California.”

Thanks for pointing that out. I’m glad to know it’s not religion and women’s studies.

Both Women’s Studies and Religion are hardly irrelevant when it comes to serious political issues. Women make up 51% of the population and still remain dramatically underrepresented in positions of power, wealth, and education. YES Women make up 55.75% of all students in ABA-approved law schools and an even higher % of law school graduates but, are again dramatically underrepresented in top firm legal partnerships, the judiciary, and political careers.

How lovely. They are still worthless degrees. If someone is going to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in an education these are some of the worst choices to make. I hope he is better at spending my tax dollars.

You lose what little credibility you have in claiming that someone’s Education is worthless.

I NEVER said his education was worthless I said his master degrees are worthless. I have no doubt John is a smart guy or he would not have been accepted into the masters program. You really shouldn’t put words in my mouth.

Danny Hang’s education in gerontology and social work have led him to serve on the DAB (Disabilities advisory Board) and he has personally counseled me on my Senior Mother’s care – I’ve seen 1st hand, the compassion and experience he leads with. I’ve also watched him interact compassionately with the senior community in our city. But one of the most compelling reasons for me: We serve together on the Commission. We have regularly voted in opposition of each other. We once reviewed our reasons for our vote. In that scenario- we were wildly at odds. Our discussion was filled with:… Read more »

I should point out: it was me saying: “how can you not see…” “why wouldn’t you feel that …” Danny was much more diplomatic. LOL

And I’ll add that this thread really reinforces why he is ideal- because his diplomacy in dealing with people, period- is so needed right now.

It’s rather myopic to think that college majors outside of law and civics make one qualified to govern. One of Erickson’s majors was women’s studies- how does a white cis male focusing on women’s history/rights/issue make him NOT qualified? For a male leader wanting greater understanding of the population he is not part of seems to be an effort at greater empathy. Erickson also worked as in intern in Weho City Hall, he was a commissioner, he has mentored by Land and Horvath- All contributing to a well rounded knowledge of west hollywood governance. There is more to qualification, in almost every area and… Read more »

It’s great to study those particular topics but to invest over $100,000 in degrees in religion and women’s studies is ridiculous. Hopefully his parents paid for those degrees.

He has a PHd so 100k is probably 200k!!

And he’s the Mayor of a world class City- he is VP for a National Organization’s local chapter. He’s a CA State Delegate and probably 1/2 dozen other things I can’t even name! SO: it’s working for him….

Even worse! He spent over $200K on worthless degrees. Now he is going to be a Biden delegate and will probably help Trump win the election. We need people with common sense and good judgement in government. I would never hire anyone with these degrees. He is using tax payer money for all kinds of personal excursions like going to Paris for the Olympics. It’s a complete waste of tax payer money. Where will he be traveling next on our dime?

You have no idea what he spent his money on. Have you ever heard of a scholarship or stipend?

John Erickson is very successful. What have you done with your life besides complain about poor people making a little bit more money each month? Disgusting.

Just admit it’s a worthless degree. Why can’t you be honest? Ask any reputable college professor if a masters degree in religion and women’s studies is worth the investment and if they are honest they will tell you it’s worthless. If he had student loans I hope Biden didn’t forgive any of them. I don’t want my tax dollars paying for a worthless degree.

    Be honest?

Be honest with yourself, Natasha. Stop lying about the fake business you run. We all know you’re a fraud.

And obviously those degrees led John Erickson to get a good job in that field he studied. Are you slow, Natasha? Not only are you painfully boring, but you have trouble grasping basic concepts.

Such anti-intellectualism is already driving our political system with lethal consequences, see: The Deadly Rise of Anti-science: A Scientist’s Warning by Dr. Peter Hotez MD/PhD. The antivaccine movement became a dangerous political campaign promoted by elected officials and amplified by news media, causing in the first few years of the pandemic, more than 200,000 unvaccinated Americans needless deaths despite the widespread availability of COVID-19 vaccines❗

Cy: I as not saying that a degree is worthless; I said that to think ONLY finance/law/civics degrees qualify one to govern, is myopic.

I once heard Neil DeGrasse Tyson point out that Congress was filled with Lawyers- and he said: ‘Where are the doctors, the teachers, the scientists?’

You want a well rounded body of knowledge to govern; not just Attorneys. THAT was my point!

If you knew him you’d not be spewing such garbage. He’s a great guy and as dedicated as one can be. Nothing self-serving or unscrupulous about Danny Hang. One of the good guys and if he was in my district I’d vote for him without question.

Pretty sad how you immediately bash him based on your own assumptions including bringing up “worthless;” degrees. If you’d delve instead of assuming you’d easily be able to determine those degrees which are by no means worthless.

literally the dumbest thing being parroted by the weho viles right now. Business license has nothing to do with business code enforcement. Pinning a business’s wrong doings solely on Mr Hang makes you sound foolish. It’s obvious you base your decisions on your hatrade for Sepi Shyne. Stick to that.
