Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf WeHo is Closing After 20 Years

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, located located on 8735 Santa Monica Blvd., on the corner of Hancock Avenue and Santa Monica, in the heart of West Hollywood’s Boystown, is closing this coming Sunday after serving the WeHo community for 20 years.

“Thank you so much for your support over the years,” reads a sign on the door. “Unfortunately, this location is permanently closing at the of the business day on Sunday, March 10, 2019. We appreciate your business and we look forward to welcoming you at one of our nearby stores.”

An employee tells WEHO TIMES the reason the location is closing is due to the landlord raising the rent and the low foot traffic. “Business has been down for this place,” She said. “The foot traffic is not what it used to be. Then they raised the rent, so that sort of sealed the deal for us.”

The employee said that all the WeHo employees are not losing their jobs. They will continue their employment with Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at nearby locations. She said she will be transferred to the location in Beverly Hills.

“This place is not exactly a mom and pop shop,” said a passerby who wished to remain nameless. “It’s not exactly going to hurt them too much by closing one location, but it’s still kind of sad to see it close. This place and the Big Gay Starbucks are pretty big hangouts for the community.”

There is no word yet on what will take the place of the soon to be vacant space. The employee believes it will be another coffee shop because they do not have a full kitchen in the back. She also stated that the Coffee Bean West Hollywood plans to close their business hours at 4pm this coming Sunday.

Nearby Coffee Beans are located at 8789 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood and Sunset and Hayworth, at 7915, Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Agree and only street parking. Decor was ok but there was a grouch vibe here…prefer the LaCieniga store or Sunset and just east of Crescent Heights.

I come here regularly and will really miss it. I much prefer Coffee Bean to Starbucks but go they’re more because they have so many locations. The other Weho locations are not convenient so may be forced to go to Starbucks even more. Maybe if this store had been remodeled at least once in 20 years it would have had more foot traffic. The decor had become a little tired and dated. Other area stores have been remodeled once or twice. Maybe Coffee Bean can find a new location on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Coffee shops are a great sidewalk hangout alternative to bars. Indeed the tricks are in the math. Prices have to be reasonable for the coffee and goods served but profit margins and quantities sold need to keep pace with overhead and rent. If your maths are off or a drop off of sales happens unexpectedly you run at a deficit and if you can’t make it up with a profitable track then the buisness sense writing is on the wall. I liked this Coffee bean as an alternative to the big gay Starbucks. But so many retail shops and spots… Read more »
