But Is He Real? Save West Hollywood Santa from Eviction

We stumbled upon a human interest story just in time for Christmas. A WEHO TIMES reader sent us this Gofundme campaign asking the public to “save Santa of West Hollywood from eviction.” The white bearded man being mentioned is a St Nick-looking man named Ted Frost (can’t guarantee that’s his real name, but we’re going with it). He is a 73-old-man who lives in West Hollywood and is on the verge of being unhoused, according to the description on the campaign.

“Ted only lives on what he can find to sell and little social security,” reads the fundraising efforts. “Come [February, 1, 2024] he has to pay $23,000 or he will be West Hollywood’s Homeless Santa Claus.”

    According to the post:

“Ted has always helped people in need from cancer patients to AIDS Patients and fought for many causes like Appeal Prop 8, human rights, animal rights, and much more.

During the Covid crisis he helped a lot of people with food and clothing and more.

I would help him but I have cancer for 6 years and only get Social security also.

After all the kindness Ted has shown so many people throughout his life I hope you find it in your heart to help Him.”

The Gofundme fundraiser was launched earlier this month on December 6, 2023. So far he has twelve people who believe in Santa Clause, or may believe he is Santa Claus. In any case, it sounds like the struggle is real.

Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Kris Kringle, or simply Santa, is a legendary figure originating in Western Christian culture who is said to bring gifts during the late evening and overnight hours on Christmas Eve. He is said to accomplish this with the aid of Christmas elves, who make the toys in his North Pole workshop, and with the aid of flying reindeer who pull his sleigh through the air.[

The modern figure of Santa is based on folklore traditions surrounding Saint Nicholas, the English figure of Father Christmas, and the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas.

He would be better off declaring personal bankruptcy and moving somewhere else. Is he on the city list for low income housing? How could he allow himself to get $23,000 behind in rent and then wait until the last minute? So far he has raised less than $600. I think what he needs most is some legal help. Because he is a senior he might be able to stop the eviction process especially if it’s in West Hollywood. Just paying off his debt is not going to solve his problem. How does he plan on paying for rent in the… Read more »

Sounds to me like you’re the fragile one upset over language. What difference does it make if you call them homeless or unhoused? How does referring to them as homeless “deal with this’. Typical snowflake calling people out for being snowflakes.

Any City Services involved? Would be a greater story if our City well funded Services saved the day, what a PR triumph that would be!

So yeah, hmmm, some details certainly seem to be missing. How did he get that far behind in rent? He stopped paying during Covid which was allowed, then never started paying again? How was he able to help so many people during this time but not help himself? Unsure what his rent is, but it sounds like the landlord was very patient before deciding resort to eviction. I’m sympathetic to his situation but it doesn’t quite add up
