Business License Commission to Reconsider Doughbrik’s Pizza Application for Extended Hours

The West Hollywood Business License Commission will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 to reconsider the application for an Extended Hour Business License for Doughbrik’s Pizza to operate until 3:00 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The popular pizza restaurant located at 8363 Sunset Boulevard is owned YouTuber David Dobrikby and Lemonade founders Alan Jackson and Ian Olsen.

At a May 2, 2023, public hearing, Commissioner Mark Yusupov made a motion to approve a conditional license for six months to give the business an opportunity to address issues that came up at a hearing. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Danny Hang. However, the motion did not pass due to a locked 2-2 vote with Commissioner Elyse Eisenberg and Commissioner Catherine Eng voting down the motion (Chair Anthony Vulin was absent and incoming Commissioner Jordan Cockeram had not been sworn in).

On June 6, 2023, the Commission approved to reconsider the application for extended hour business license after it approved extended hours for Heart WeHo nightclub.

The Extended Hour Business License would require Doughbrik’s to provide sufficient off-street parking for its patrons to prevent cruising on neighborhood streets; maintain a neat and clean appearance; discourage patrons from engaging in criminal or unlawful activity by providing diligent management, instituting security measures and contacting the Sheriff’s Department whenever such unlawful activity occurs; and the applicant must discourage loitering.

Doughbrik’s agreed to the terms stating that it would have a manager on staff till the late hours; they would hire a second security person for the extended hour, they’d work with the neighboring businesses so their customers don’t park in their spaces and they’d ensure that the area was maintained clean in the residential neighborhoods.

The business is in a commercial building on Sunset Boulevard, near Kings Road. The business is adjacent to other commercial establishments and single-family dwellings at the northside on the hillside of the subject property.

Doughbrik’s Pizza began their operation in November 2022 and has an active Public Eating Business License, which excludes alcohol sales. The business has an outdoor dining area on the frontage of the property. Their current hours of operations are Sunday through Wednesday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Thursday, 11:00 AM to Midnight, Friday,
    and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Doughbrik’s Pizza operates from a single-story commercial building, and it is neighbor to the Saddle Ranch, retail stores, and Carney’s Restaurant. These establishments close at or before 2:00 a.m. The nearest businesses with an extended hour business license are Carney’s Restaurant, which currently closes before midnight, The Body Shop, located on Sunset Boulevard and Harper, and Pink Dot on Sunset and La Cienega Boulevard.

City Staff is recommending the extended business hours. It believes the approval of this establishment will not cause negative impacts in the residential and commercial neighborhoods based on the findings in the Staff Report.
