BREAKING! West Hollywood IHOP is Permanently CLOSED!

More sad news from the WeHo business frontlines. The West Hollywood IHOP (International House of Pancakes) has permanently closed at 8461 Santa Monica Blvd after serving the WeHo Community at that location for many decades, possibly dating back to the late 60s/early 70s. Their last day of operations was Monday, January 1, 2024. A voicemail message states that the location is closed and directs their customers to the Hollywood location at 7006 Sunset Blvd.

The closure was abrupt and without so much as a note giving reasons for its closure. An employee at the Hollywood IHOP confirmed that the closure is permanent in West Hollywood. He said he could not get into why the location closed, and simply summed it up to business issues.  Another source says the franchise fees were too high, forcing it to close at the start of 2024, but that has not yet been confirmed.

The news comes after Sweet Lady Jane Bakery announced that it too will be permanently closed after serving the community for 35 years.

The long-standing food chain is known for serving a wide variety of pancakes and other American breakfast diner fare in West Hollywood. The establishment will be sorely missed.

Fun Fact: Bette Midler used to own the IHOP property and may still for all I know.

Might have something to do with the motel turning into a homeless shelter??? I am also looking forward to Fountain Ave becoming one lane so there can be a bike lane. Great job to the woke idiots running my city now. What a disaster.

Not surprised ask if the minimum wage increase caused higher menu price.
That customers rejected, then a possible increase in rent that created a greater loss of revenue that caused them to finally close. This is the West Hollywood small business and even larger business recipe for disaster.
    Thank you Sepi

Enough with the minimum wage bashing. It’s funny the issue is never corporate greed, franchise licensing fees or CEO salaries.

Corporate greed, licensing fees and CEO salaries are all issues but so is the minimum wage. Most small businesses don’t pay licensing fees and their CEO’s don’t make $4.4 million dollars like John Peyton the CEO of IHOP (Dine brands). Personally, it’s not the wage that bother me because I think valued employees should be paid well and treated well it’s forcing small businesses to pay even mediocre employees the highest minimum wage in the country plus other benefits. I hire a lot of college interns and they are all paid around $25/hour even though we can pay them less.… Read more »

So glad I left, between the pretentious white gays, overpriced restaurants and out of control homeless population WEHO was a nightmare. Nearly a third of the businesses were closing. I wish WEHO would go back to its roots and stop with the crazy amounts of gentrification that is in poor taste. But alas I think WEHO is over, so sad to see a gay mecca disappear slowly.

No offense, but you sound as if you haven’t lived in the neighborhood very long. Those of us who have lived here 20+ years have seen so many changes that haven’t been for the better of the community. Gladileft isn’t wrong.

And the nail salon next to B of A closed sometime this week. It was always popular.

Who cares? IHOP is a very sucky chain with gross dated processed food. You people act like this is some monumental tragedy when you should actually be doing a dance of joy that something more modern and healthier might move in.

This is what happens when you have a terrible city hall. They have literally destroyed West Hollywood. No business would ever want to open here. Shame on you!!!

Victor, you’re obsessively responding to critical comments like a 7th grade girl, although I bet you’re a 52 year old queen. Go back to petting Shelby and Dolly and let the adults converse.

Maybe they can expand the homeless shelter (who else is going to lease next to that?).

Another WEHO landmark gone thanks to mismanagement by our city. There will be an avalanche of these closures this year.

Sad for the employees but there is no chance that location stays empty for long. Prime real estate smack dab in the middle of weho AND a parking lot.

Not prime real estate anymore with the homeless shelter next-door. Totally undesirable now.

Many decade open and gone overnight. This place used to be a hot spot since they were open let. Jim Morrison was known to eat the IHOP and across the street at Barney’s Beanery.
