Block Party WeHo – West Hollywood’s Gayest Store is For Sale

Block Party WeHo, the self-professed gayest retail store in the world, located at 8853 Santa Monica, is officially up for sale. The sale of the business listing, described as “West Hollywood Prime Gay Retail”, has been made public on bizbuysell.com. The asking price is $1,185,000.

“We are a world-famous shop, in a world-famous city,” reads the description in the listing. “The shop is sandwiched between two iconic gay bars in the heart of West Hollywood. We are open late nights till midnight during the week and 2am on weekends.”

The listing adds that inventory can be cleared or sold at 90% of cost. The cash flow is at $600,000. The inventory, meaning the value of the merchandise, the raw materials, finished and unfinished products, which have not bee sold, is valued at $300,000.

The store, owned by Larry Block, and located in the heart of West Hollywood’s LGBT Rainbow District, prides itself in being community driven. A sign inside the store that has been up since the day it first opened its doors, defines a block party as the following: “block par*ty (noun) – neighborhood gathering: a place for all people of the same community.”

“A man on the street described it to me as ‘the gayest place in the universe, which in WeHo, is saying something,” said Block in a 2017 WEHO TIMES interview. “It’s proudly tacky and unabashedly ironic, filled with anti-Trump t-shirts, leather harnesses, jock straps, tongue-in-cheek magnets, vape pens, porno DVDs, dildos, lube, dog collars, cock rings, and just about anything else you’d need for a pretty good weekend in Vegas. Prominent signs beg, ‘One guest in fitting room at a time.'”

Block Party also award winning. It won the 2019 West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Creative business award under the WeHo Attraction Award category.

Mr. Block also owns YMLA in West Hollwood, at 8594 Santa Monica, which is a unisex retail store geared towards a more mainstream audience.

This Block Party listing is being handled by an agent. Inquiries can be made by contacting Deanna Dube at [email protected].

He’ll be lucky to get $200,000 for it. He obviously wants out because he sees the handwriting on the wall. Better to get something versus lose everything. Most small businesses along Santa Monica Blvd will not survive. Rent is too high and labor costs are too high and people shop online. Almost anything you can buy in his store can now be purchased online. It’s a shame but it’s reality.

Please post proof you employ people in West Hollywood. Anyone can claim things on the internet.

Prove it or you’re a liar. You won’t post anything because it’s most likely all made up.

You can call me whatever you want. It’s MAGA childish but that is your right. The bottom line is you claim to be anti-Trump yet you embrace so many of his tactics. If you say you’re going to do something you should follow though or don’t say it in the first place. It’s not that complicated. Do we really need to debate this with ever single post?

Please link the comment where I said I was going to post my linkedin? Post proof of this claim that you made up.

You’re a liar, Natasha. You’re deranged and boring. Get a job and stop lying about employing people in West Hollywood. You’re a loser.

Please stop with the personal attacks. I don’t really care if you post it or not. Just don’t say you’re going to do things and then don’t do them. Is that really too much to ask?

HAH! Mr Block wrote a recent op-ed piece calling out all these businesses bailing on WeHo, but he failed to include his own store on that list. He used bizbuysell.com as the source which is where he listed Block party. Then he pins the story on the other guy and they changed the name of the author. Then they lie that they already wrote about Block Party being for sale, which is a bogus claim. Nowhere is there a story about the listing, or the asking price or anything that you read here.

    I’m not even kidding

Well most of us dancers just go in there and shoplift, no one pays for anything! I don’t know how they pay their rent. We go in with our empty backpacks make some selections go in the dressing room and leave with a full backpack. I’ve given quite a few BJ’s in those dressing rooms! Last Friday I went in there and asked one of the sales queens if I could see a bottle of poppers I took it into the dressing room sniffed the whole thing and brought it back to the counter empty he didn’t even notice and… Read more »

The sale of Block Party is like the preverbal “piano store going out of business” ploy. Happens every 18 months or so.

Hahahaha!!! He’s not going to sell. Even if someone wants to buy, he’ll pull some shady stunt where he’ll want a handshake instead of a contract. The lease will run out. He’ll close the store and he will blame Sepi and John.

That is exactly the endgame. He will do whatever he can to blame his failings on the city council. He still isn’t over his election loss in 2020 sadly. A grown man in his 60s acting like a teenager.

You have flaked on everything you said you were going to do. You have zero credibility. Why are you such a hostile person? Everything is confrontational with you. Why are you so angry? I offered a New Year’s resolution to be kind and instead you just continue to hurl insults. It’s just bad energy.

This is not surprising. How can a store like this afford the SMB rent and high labor costs? Larry is getting out while he still can. Unfortunately, everything he sells can be bought online without the hassle of walking around SMB. It’s too bad.
