Beauty Collection, located at 8951 Santa Monica Boulevard, in the Pavilions shopping center, is going out of business. The beauty supply store is having an Everything-Must-Go sale with items currently selling for 25-50% off retail price. According to a manager at the West Hollywood store, they have been serving the community for the 12 years.
An employe says there is no official closing date at this time. Closing will depend on how fast they move their final product. She says two locations are going out of business. The Marina Del Rey and West Hollywood locations are closing around the same time. A worker at Marina Del Rey projects both stores may not be around past the end of this August.
The manager at the West Hollywood location says the internet is shutting them down. She made it clear that the closure is not related to anything controversial like the ordinance raising the minimum wage and employee paid sick leave in West Hollywood which kicked in at the start of July. She adds that she’s not aware of any issues with the landlord or the raising of rent. According to the source, the owner struggled to maintain the doors open due to competing online retail giants like Amazon.
The store at Sherman Oaks is the original store which opened a good 30 years ago. according to an employee, it will remain open for business. It will not be impacted by the closing of the sister locations.
Beauty Collection started out as a family-owned business. It evolved into a collection comprised of hand-selected exclusive products from around the world. The two locations closing are owned by the son of the original owner. The Sherman Oaks location is owned by the owner’s wife.
Not all items are on sale in the West Hollywood location at this time. That will change as they get closer to closing time.
It’s business as usual on their online store, which does not acknowledge the two closing locations.
It doesn’t surprise me. At the start of the pandemic, they were selling a tiny bottle of spray hand sanitizer for $15/bottle. Talk about gouging customers. I stopped shopping there after that incident.
I’m so sorry to see this happen. West Hollywood’s Beauty Collection not only carries great and exclusive products, they give back to the community in a significant way through many different annual charity fundraisers. I wish the staff and ownership well in whatever future endeavors are ahead of them and thank them for their service.
Love how this article leads the narrative away from how it’s not about the minimum wage in West Hollywood. It’s good to know considering most businesses are closing for that very reason.
That, and now having to give employees some 90+ hours of PTO per year! I won’t be hiring anyone in WH.
Restaurant please!
Another business shutters.
