“In order to protect our guests and staff, all guests will be required to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test result (date of test must be within prior 72 hours) to enter the premises,” reads a post on the Harlowe Restaurant’s Instagram page. “This policy will go into effect Tuesday, July 27th. We are committed to doing our part to end the pandemic, and we encourage all of our patrons to get vaccinated as soon as they are able. Thank you for helping us keep our business safe.”
The response to the new safety measure was a swarm of anti-vaxers protesting outside the restaurant located at 7321 Santa Monica Boulevard on the day the new rule went into effect.
A group of roughly 40 showed up in the afternoon to send a message that they did not believe in the COVID-19 vaccine. People held signs with messages like, “My Body, My Choice,” “Save Our Children”, and “VAX Mandates = Nazy Tactics” to name a few.
They also yelled into bullhorns spouting anti-vaccination conspiracies similar to what is echoed on Fox News and from anti-vaxers like right-wing Congress Woman Marjorie Taylor Green who has compared COVID-19 public-health measures like wearing masks and vaccine mandates, to the Holocaust. “They want you to take the Fauci Ouchy or you’re not allowed to eat their food,” one protestor yelled on Santa Monica Boulevard. “This is the start of a new Holocaust. It’s like the Star of David. If you don’t have the experimental jab, you have the Star of David.”
A small group of counter protestors stood across the street in front of Trader Joe’s grocery store. They heckled the anti-vexers, but stayed on their side of the Boulevard while Sheriff Deputies looked on.
The anti-vaxers protested until they were tired. They left the scene at roughly 9:30 p.m. without incident.
