ABC7 Plans Pride TV Special to Replace Parade Broadcast During Virtual LA Pride Weekend

ABC7 was slated to once again feature a live broadcast of the annual LA Pride Parade this year, which is hosted by the City of West Hollywood. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic cancelling large crowd gatherings all over the country, the Los Angeles news outlet is planning to replace the live pride parade coverage with a Pride TV Special scheduled to air during Pride weekend.

The 90-minute Pride TV Special will be hosted by ABC7 anchors Ellen Leyva & Brandi Hitt, with special guest-host Raven-Symone. It will air on Saturday June 13, 7:30pm – 9:00pm PST, with a re-broadcast on Sunday June 14, 2:00pm – 3:30pm.

The program will include short video clips from celebrities and LGBTQ icons and advocates, and a Virtual Pride Parade. The public is invited to be a part of this very special television event by submitting homemade videos.

ABC7 is once again asking the public to take part in network’s Pride TV Special and encouraging community members to gather their quarantine resources and come up with creative ways to celebrate Pride, either by recording a video of themselves as if they’re part of the LA Pride Parade float, decorate a business, store front, backyard, couch, or just throw confetti in the air, and send a message of HAPPY PRIDE, HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY, LA PRIDE-WE MISS YOU, or whatever creative message comes to mind. People can dress up in their Pride best and record a Zoom version of their Parade marching group (social distancing and face coverings are mandatory).

Participants can also commemorate LA Pride with a message or story. Do you have a great memory about your first LA Pride? Why is LA Pride is important to you? What touching, funny, or memorable Pride experience has stuck with you all these years? Video messages should be up to one minute.

Videos will be included in the 50th Anniversary social media content on @ABC7 and @LAPRIDE throughout June.

ABC 7 is also asking the community to share their past pride photos for a chance to have them featured throughout Pride Month in June.

Submission must be received by JUNE 1. Send your video to [email protected]
