    A West Hollywood Rehab Center is Listed in Aetna Lawsuit Alleging Fraud and Exploitation

    Aetna has filed a lawsuit against multiple rehabilitation facilities and their operators across Orange, Los Angeles, and Riverside counties. Among those listed in the recent legal action is Nathan Samuel Young, aka Pablo Lopez, who owns Sunset Rehab, located at 7235 Santa Monica Blvd, in West Hollywood’s Eastside, and also owns five others rehabs in Southern California, including Rodeo Recovery in Beverly Hills.

    The lawsuit accuses the defendants of engaging in fraudulent activities, including negligent misrepresentation, economic interference, and conspiracy under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

    According to Aetna, the defendants targeted vulnerable Aetna members struggling with alcohol and/or substance dependency issues since at least 2021. The lawsuit alleges that the operators used deceptive practices, such as offering kickbacks for free or low-cost living arrangements in supposed “sober living homes” that turned out to be alleged drug dens. Patients were lured into extended treatment programs to maximize health benefit payments, with some being encouraged to relapse to restart the billing cycle.

    Aetna claims to have paid nearly $40 million in fraudulent healthcare claims, with substantial amounts going to Helping Hands and Joser Forever. The lawsuit further asserts that the defendants actively worked to harm patients rather than provide genuine services.

    The full list of names in the lawsuit include:

    • Nathan Samuel Young, aka Pablo Lopez, of Rodeo Recovery (Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills), Get Real Recovery (Rancho Viejo Road, San Juan Capistrano), Healing Path Recovery, Healing Path Detox (Amberleaf Circle, Huntington Beach), Sunset Rehab (Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood), Natural Rest House (Ocotillo Drive, La Quinta) and Ocean Valley Behavioral Health (Mauve Drive, Santa Ana);
    • David Young, aka Sancho Lopez, a family member of Nathan Young who “actively participates in the operations of the various entities, including Rodeo Recovery”;
    • Marc Adler of Helping Hands Rehabilitation Clinic (North Highland Avenue, Los Angeles);
    • Jose Ricardo Toscano Maldonado of Joser Forever (South La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles);
    • Ani Mirzayan of Revive Premier Treatment Center (Ventura Boulevard, Studio City);
    • Ali Beheshti, who operates the Zealie medical billing company in Laguna Beach, which submitted a majority of the bills to Aetna that resulted in what it calls wrongful payments.

    The legal action sheds light on a broader issue within the addiction treatment industry, where some facilities exploit patients for financial gain. Aetna’s lawsuit outlines a pattern of manipulating insurance coverage, facilitating drug use, and avoiding detection through the creation of multiple entities.

    The lawsuit also raises questions about the effectiveness of state regulations and enforcement in addressing fraudulent practices within the addiction treatment sector. Despite previous legal actions and regulations, the lawsuit suggests a lack of adequate oversight, allowing unscrupulous actors to exploit vulnerable populations.

    In response to the allegations, some defendants, including Zealie, have denied any wrongdoing and are actively seeking the dismissal of claims. The legal proceedings highlight the need for increased scrutiny, enforcement, and regulatory measures to protect individuals seeking addiction treatment.

    As the legal battle unfolds, the case underscores the urgency for comprehensive reforms in the licensing, credentialing, and regulation of addiction treatment programs. Lawmakers are urged to address systemic issues, acknowledge addiction as a medical condition, and implement measures to prevent further exploitation of individuals in need of care.

    Whoever is commenting as me below, is not actually me. Not sure if it’s Nathan Young aka Pablo playing games or another individual. Either way, rest assured, if I comment, it won’t be petty. Rather, it will be discussing the harm happening.
