CBSN News reports that a man was found dead in a West Hollywood on Friday, February 12, 2021, at 12:30 a.m. He is believed to have been beaten to death after a bar fight. Los Angeles Police officers on patrol in the area were flagged down to the victim in the 8500 Block of Melrose Avenue. CBSN video footage shows the incident happened in the vicinity of La Cienega Boulevard and Melrose Avenue.
The victim is reported to be in his 50s. He died at the scene, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. He has not yet been identified.
According to reports, LAPD officers had been called about a fight nearby when the victim was discovered. It is not yet clear if the fight and the death are connected, but deputies learned that some patrons from the bar had gotten into a fight outside, which may have involved the victim. The victim was allegedly stomped and repeatedly kicked in the head, a sheriff’s department spokesperson told CBSN.
No arrests have been made, but authorities are searching for suspects who were only described as a Hispanic woman and a Black man.
Sheriff’s detectives are canvassing the area for security video and possible cell phone video that could aid in the investigation.
The Melrose Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard as well as the Melrose Place area are closed off to moving traffic as of this morning at 10 a.m.
