22-year-old Khyren Ross Identified as Heart WeHo Bouncer Charged with Assaulting Albert Vasquez

The Heart WeHo Nightclub security guard accused of punching and seriously injuring 53-year-old Albert Vasquez on April 5 has been identified as 22-year-old Khyren Ross.

The Beverly Press reports that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has charged Ross with one misdemeanor count of battery causing serious bodily injury and one misdemeanor count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. Ross’s arraignment is scheduled for May 29 in Dept. 73 of the Airport Courthouse.

According to investigators, Ross worked for WGS Group, a security company contracted by Heart WeHo, located at 8911 Santa Monica Blvd. The incident occurred at 10:40 p.m. on April 5. A statement by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department states that the victim attempted to enter a nightclub in West Hollywood. Ross did not allow the victim entry due to the victim not having proper identification. Both the suspect and the victim engaged in a verbal and physical altercation, during which the suspect punched the victim once in the face. The victim fell to the ground and was transported to a nearby hospital. Ross was arrested on April 17, according to news reports, and was released on $50,000 bail.

Family, friends, and supporters of Albert Vasquez were relentless in getting the story out to the media, and they pressured the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station to step up the investigation. They also demanded that Heart WeHo release video footage from that night. A GoFundMe fundraiser has raised $69,530 as of the posting of this piece.

Mr. Vasquez’s sister, Gloria Jimenez, stated that the injuries sustained by her brother do not add up to one punch in the face. She says her brother was found in a pool of his blood with two head fractures, bruises to his lungs, a black eye, and scrapes and bruises on his arms and legs. She added that Vasquez spent a month in the hospital and is still on a long road to recovery.

The Beverly Press reports that Jimenez and the family are consulting with an attorney and considering a lawsuit, seeking justice.

Misdemeanors? These charges seem awfully light. Of course, it’s George Gascón’s territory. I hope Albert Vasquez and his family sue the hell out of Heart and its principals + Khyren Ross. Heart and Ross must be held responsible for his negligent actions.

Why would a nightclub be responsible? It’s that security guards fist that hit him!
