1 Hotel West Hollywood Among 28 to Reach Agreements with UNITE HERE Local 11

Hotels reached historic agreements with UNITE HERE Local 11, raising the total to 28 hotels to settle so far. Aimbridge Hospitality properties continue to lag behind top hotel brands.

Hotel workers at Sheraton Universal, LINE Hotel, and 1 Hotel West Hollywood join the Fairmont Miramar Santa Monica and 24 other hotels to sign standard-setting tentative agreements with UNITE HERE Local 11.

“We never gave up and fought hard to win what so many other hotel workers now have. I hope workers at our sister property, the LA Grand and other hotels soon join us,” said Maria Del Carmen, room attendant at Sheraton Universal.

Once the contract is ratified, it will include the same as the previous tentative agreements:

    • Unprecedented wage increases that keep pace with the soaring cost of housing

    • Affordable, excellent family healthcare

    • Humane workloads and safe staffing

    • Improved pension increases so that workers can retire with dignity

    • Language improvements, including Equal Justice language that, among other things, will help to provide access to union jobs for formerly incarcerated individuals and unprecedented protections for immigrant workers.

“Tourism is booming,” said Kurt Petersen, co-president of UNITE HERE Local 11. “Room rates are soaring. The World Cup is around the corner. While we recognize the growing list of hotels signing this historic agreement, we are appalled that Aimbridge operated hotels such as the Hyatt Regency LAX and Pasadena Hilton fail so miserably to listen to their workers,” The hotels operated by Aimbridge Hospitality in the UNITE HERE Local 11 jurisdiction include the Hyatt Regency LAX, Sheraton Park Anaheim, Hilton Pasadena, Doubletree DTLA, Doubletree San Pedro, Holiday Inn LAX, Santa Monica Hampton Inn, Santa Monica Courtyard Marriott, and Blackstone-owned Aloft and Fairfield El Segundo. Those and the Ensemble-operated Hotel Maya and Hyatt Place Pasadena, continue to refuse to meet the new hotel contract standard.

I think it’s great that the union and the hotels were able to reach an agreement. Hopefully the employees actually receive the benefit. That being said I will vote against ANY candidate running for WEHO city council that gets it’s support from this corrupt union. Many of their ideas are just bad for the city and ultimately bad for businesses and bad for their employees. Businesses in West Hollywood are already struggling to survive the last thing they need is a greedy union telling city officials how to run West Hollywood.

The Unite Here thugs have done more to hurt the city of West Hollywood than any of our incompetent council members. Every resident of West Hollywood pays more for everything due to their outrageous demands.
